I Forgot to Complete the Process, and Now I'm Home. What Can I Do?

If you've left the country and forgot to complete the VAT refund process, don’t worry—you still have time to finish it from home! However, the steps you need to take vary depending on where you made your purchase.

For Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Netherlands and Finland

If you shopped in Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Netherlands or Finland, you must have obtained a customs stamp before leaving the EU. This stamp is essential for your VAT refund as it confirms your goods were exported. Without it, your claim will be denied. You still have 90 days from the date of purchase to upload the customs-stamped receipt and submit your claim through the Pie VAT app.

For Norway

If your purchases were made in Norway, the process is slightly different, and you don’t need a customs stamp. Instead, when you're back home, you must take a live photo of the items you bought. This photo needs to include geolocation data to prove that the goods were exported from Norway. You have 30 days from the date of purchase to upload the live photo, along with your receipt, through the Pie VAT app to complete your VAT refund request.

Steps to Complete Your VAT Refund

1. Upload your documents: Open the Pie VAT app and upload the necessary documents:

   • For Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Netherlands and Finland: A photo of your customs-stamped receipt and a photo of the goods.

   • For Norway: A live photo of the goods with geolocation data and your receipt.

2. Submit your claim: Once all the required information is uploaded, submit your VAT refund request through the app.

What Happens If You Miss the Deadline?

If you miss the 30-day deadline for Norway or the 90-day deadline for the other countries, your claim will be denied, and you will no longer be eligible for a refund. We recommend completing your claim as soon as possible to avoid missing out.
