The customs office at Oslo Airport is always open. However, please be aware that services are limited outside regular office hours, which are Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 15:30. Important Information Regarding VAT Claims
Please note that Norway is not part of the EU, but part of the European Economic Area (EEA). Therefore, VAT refund claims for purchases made within the EU may not be stamped by Norwegian customs, as Norway is outside the EU VAT system. If you have made purchases within the EU and are transiting through Norway, you will need to obtain the customs stamp in the last EU country you depart from.
On the other hand, VAT refund claims for purchases made in Norway do not require a customs visit at all. Instead, you must take a live photo of the purchased goods once you are back home. This live photo, with geolocation data enabled, serves as proof that the items have been exported from Norway.
Steps to Complete Your VAT Refund
When departing from Oslo Airport, if you are claiming a VAT refund from Norway, there is no need to visit the customs desk. Simply ensure that you upload the live photo of your purchased items through the Pie VAT app when you’re home.
